Baron Haussmann’ Statue on Haussman Boulevard

On 11 January 1891, the Baron Haussmann passed away. If you have visited Paris more than once, you must have heard his name. or you may have walked on "Boulevard Haussmann".

Haussmann was appointed by Napoleon III in view of modernizing the old medieval Paris. Within a twenty year time period, the old narrow streets with wooden houses were wiped out to make way for the new wide Boulevards and Avenues.

It is fitting that the man in charge of overseeing this massive urban development would be honored with his name on one of these boulevards and have his statue there.

Next time you pass this statue, stop by and say hello to the man who contributed in giving Paris its unique esthetics. If you join my Napoleon tour, I will add a twist to the whole story! Hush, hush...
