Benedict Arnold’ Betrayal

On 21 September 1780, Benedict Arnold betrayed the American cause by meeting secretly with British official to discuss a plot: Arnold agreed to easily surrender the American facility of West Point which he was in charge of.

The definite answer as to the reason of his betrayal is still subject to debate and interpretation for historians: injustice, rivalry with and jealousy of other officers, battlefield wounds, childhood psychological wounds, a love affair, etc...

The British man was captured and hung, but Arnold managed to flea, found his way to the United Kingdom and later Canada where he died twenty years later.
