Corsica becomes French territory!

On 15th May 1768, the Treaty of Versailles sealed an agreement between Genoa handing over to France the government of the beautiful Island of Corsica.

France had been helping Genoa militarily to maintain order on the island whose population would have rather been independent. But military help has a cost and ultimately, Genoa preferred to give away the island rather than pay off their debts.
