Crystal Night / Krystall Nacht
Crystal night or in German "Krystall Nacht" sounds like the title of a romance novel, doesn't it? Or it could be also an 80's horror movie. And that's more what it was in reality.
On 9 and 10 November 1938, Jewish homes, schools, hospitals, synagogues, businesses were attacked, looted, demolished, burned to the ground.
This took place all over Germany, Austria and Sudetenland (part of Czekoslovakia annexed by Hitler). It was accomplished by the SA and SS paramilitary troops troops and even youth who embraced Nazi idealogy.
In addition, an estimated 30,000 Jewish people were arrested and sent to concentration camps. While the "final solution" had not yet been conceived, this was a major step leading up to it.
