Fouquet Jewelry Boutique at Carnavalet Museum

When a jewellery boutique was a jewel onto itself! For the 1900 World exhibition held in Paris, jewellery maker George Fouquet had teamed up with illustrator extraordinaire Alfons Mucha. Their joint creations were such a success, the jeweller asked the artist to design his new boutique.

Mucha’s design incorporated the essential characteristics of the Art Nouveau movement: animal, vegetal, floral and feminine motifs. Notice also the beautiful mosaic motif on the floor.

As Art Nouveau had fallen out of fashion after WWI, the boutique decor was replaced. Fouquet stored Mucha's decor and later donated it to the Carnavalet Museum.

Make sure to visit this museum dedicated to the history of Paris so you can enjoy this magnificent jewel of Art Nouveau! This is the perfect prequel or sequel to my Art Nouveau Architecture walk in Paris!
