Josephine de Beauharnais & Napoleon

On 9 March 1796, General Napoleon Bonaparte married Marie Josèphe Rose Tascher de la Pagerie. Napoleon called her "Josephine".

Among the things that were utterly wrong in the recent Napoleon movie is the depiction of Josephine. I am not exactly sure what the director and actress were trying to portray: an independant and liberated woman or a vulgar lady? Josephine was certainly a smart and self-assured lady but certainly not in the trashy way that is conveyed in the film.

It's Josephine's sweetness that conquered the young general and future Emperor Napoleon and while he divorced her after fifteen years of marriage for political reasons, she remained the love of his life.
