MEET THE MARQUIS DE LA FAYETTE - ONLINE JOURNEY

JOURNEY DESCRIPTION:

In 1777, the nineteen-year-old Marquis de La Fayette sailed to America to fight in the American Revolutionary War. This period prepared La Fayette to play a role in the French Revolution: he was one of the first noble men to embrace the ideas of Liberty and Equality.

His life was a succession of highs and lows, from being a hero to being imprisoned in the worst conditions. Through all this, La Fayette got to know the first seven presidents of the United States, five of the Kings of France, European Kings, and Emperor Napoleon!

In 1824, he was invited by U.S. Congress to return to America and be the guest of the Nation for thirteen months straight! He visited all States (twenty four at the time) and was celebrated as a hero everywhere.

I invite you to meet a fascinating figure who lived through the most incredible times on two continents torn by wars and revolutions.

This Online Journey will cover his whole life, from childhood, to his involvement in all of the above-mentioned events and most importantly, the close friendships he had with George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and the more nuanced and complex relationships with Kings, Queens, Napoleon and other French Revolutionaries…

This online journey is suitable for anyone having no prior or little knowledge of the American Revolution, as well as those who are familiar with the subject and would like to explore it further. All questions are welcome :)

Thierry was absolutely excellent in his presentation on one of the most significant periods of Western history. He was organized, communicated very well, was fun and warm, and most of all, he was knowledgeable. One could tell that he loves history. This was especially wonderful as we had two groups of us from the US (east and west coast) and Thierry in France. Thierry did a terrific job of walking us through an immense amount of material in a relatable, memorable way, and was so open to questions from the adults and kids. He was thoughtful about how he described the executions so as not to be too scary, but it is what it is! So much I didn't know that he pulled together. I will strongly recommend this to family and friends.
