Louis XVI - Coronation

"Lord, help us for we are too young to reign...". These are the words of twenty year-old Louis when he was crowned King of France on 11 June 1775. Was Louis XVI too young to reign?

Most French Kings actually started ruling as early as 17 years of age. The issue with Louis was that he may have been on the spectrum. He preferred sciences, navigation and engineering to politics and was known to spend hours taking apart clocks and locks and putting them back together.

He also lacked the self-confidence of some of his predecessors both as a politician and as a man... For seven years nothing happened in the royal bed... The joke at Versailles was "the locksmith cannot find the key hole!"...
