Maison d’Isabelle’ Epipahny Kings’ Cake

Early January in France, we celebrate the Epiphany. Commemorating when the three Kings came to see the newborn Jesus. So on the second Sunday after Christmas, the French tradition is to eat "La Galette des Rois" (the Kings' cake)... Because any opportunity to eat cake is good!

In Paris, the Galette is golden on top and is filled almond paste inside. What you see here is the southern version: a "brioche" cake with glazed fruits on top. Having grown up in the south, to me, this is it!

Some Paris bakeries will offer both versions. I get mine at "La Maison d'Isabelle", a bakery in the 5th arrondissement known for their delicious croissants. This bakery has received several prizes so if you happen to be in the area, don't pass it by! Stop and treat yourself!
