Martin Luther - 95 Theses

On 31 October 1517, a monk named Martin Luther posted a manifesto made up of 95 theses questioning the selling of « indulgences » by the Catholic Church.

In other words, with gold coins, you could buy forgiveness for your sins and get your entry ticket to Heaven…

Martin Luther was only trying to spark a debate on the subject. We now know his manifesto ignited the schism leading to the Protestant Reform.

The photos show the the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany, where the monk nailed his revolutionary document on Hallows Eve! Happy Halloween!
