Napoleon Statue as General Bonaparte

I love this statue of Napoleon dressed as a general! It has an interesting story! When Napoleon was exiled to Saint-Helena (by British and European monarchs), his other statue as Emperor was removed from the column on Place Vendôme.

Later, King Louis-Philippe commisioned this statue of Napoleon as general and placed it on the Vendôme column. Fast forward again, when Napoleon's nephew rose to power, he recreated the statue of his uncle as Emperor and placed it back on the Vendôme column.

So this one had to be taken down from there and was placed in a roundabout where the "Defense" business center is now located. Napoleon III went to war with Bismarck and before Prussians entered Paris, the statue was removed in view of being safeguarded but while it was travelling by boat, it fell into the Seine river...

After being rescued, restored and stored away for a while, it finally found the way to its current location in 1911! It's tough being a statue in France!
