Ordre de la Libération Museum at The Invalides

The Hôtel des Invalides houses the tomb of Napoleon as well as a very extensive Military Museum. There is another section that is too often overlooked: the "Museum of the Order of the Liberation". Could it be due to its location that is separate from the main area?

This order was created by Charles de Gaulle in 1940 to reward those who would contribute to the liberation of France during Nazi occupation.

The attribution of the ”Cross of the Liberation" was based on the quality of the services rendered. From 1940 to 1944, it was only attributed to 1,036 people, communes and fighting units. It is considered the second most important distinction in France after the Legion of Honour.

The museum is a great tribute to exceptional resistant fighters and soldiers and a great complement to the Military Museum section on WWII.
