Saint-Alexandre Nevsky - Paris Russian Cathedral

The Saint-Alexandre Nevsky Cathedral was the first Russian Orthodox religious location in Paris. It was inaugurated in 1861 during the reign of Napoleon III. Alexandre Nevky, Prince of Novgorov, is a hero for Russians. He was a military leader in the 1200's.

The church is quite beautiful. It is of course unusual to see Byzantine architecture in Paris but somehow, it creates an interesting contrast with the surrounding Haussman buildings.

No bare walls inside! All walls are decorated with icons. All arches, ceilings and cupola are painted gold and full of arabesque motifs. Charged but beautiful! Occasionnaly, they have small choirs' concerts, it is worth checking their website!
