Saint-Merri Church

Built in the 1500's, the Eglise Saint-Merri is sometimes referred as the "Petite Notre-Dame"... It hasn't suffered a fire lately but sadly needs a lot of restoration work. This represents a great amount of money, and as a result, many churches in France need help. Saint-Merri is very active in organising free concerts to collect funds.

I encourage you to visit the church and help if you can! Take the time to stop by the entrance and look at the "Flamboyant Gothic" style portico! You will see the devilish looking figure of Baphomet with his horns, bat wings and feminine breast! Welcoming isn't it?

As per the legend, and I insist on "as per the legend", the Knight Templars were accused of worshiping the Devil and Baphomet whom they saw as a figure of wisdom... Back then, the punishment for heresy was burning at the stake... We will never know whether they were truly guilty or not.
