Saint-Roch Church

The Church of Saint-Roch is one of my favorites in Paris. Young Louis XIV himself laid the first stone though the construction and various transformations went beyond the lifetime of the Sun King!

While the façade of the church is composed of classical elements, the inside is actually a mix of classical and baroque styles like the Virgin Mary Chapel and its flamboyant "Divine Glory" sculpture with its sunrays bursting though the clouds.

Located on Rue Saint-Honoré, it is steps away from the Louvre and it is definitely worth a visit. Take a minute to admire the superb ceilings and see the difference of the plain ceiling above the main neve and that above the altar and choir! There, each stained glass window has its own painted vault. On a bright day with sun shining through, you will appreciate this masterpiece of architecture.

And on my Napoleon tour, we will stop in front of this church to discuss a very special event where young General Bonaparte did something incredible... Hush, hush...
