Tuileries Gardens - Stairs of National Assembly

Have you ever walked around the Tuileries Gardens and then walked up these steps landing on Rue de Rivoli towards Place Vendôme? You probably didn't think anything of these steps...

Well there is something about them! In 1801, when Napoleon's architects created the Rue de Rivoli, they had to demolish any construction that stood in the way. One of these places was the Feuillants' convent.

During the French Revolution, part of that convent known as the "Salle du Manège" came to be the siege of the National Assembly. These steps are the only remnants of the "Salle du Manège".

Over two centuries ago, picture the likes of King Louis XVI, the Marquis de La Fayette, Robespierre, Danton, and so many more walking up and down this flight of stairs!
