1900 Notre-Dame du Travail Church
Behold the church of Heavy Metal! Inaugurated in 1902, "Notre-Dame du Travail" (Our Lady of Labor) is striking with its unusual metallic structure!
In the peak of the steel industry, it was built by workers who had contributed to putting together temporary pavillons for several Universal Exhibitions including that of 1889 for which the Eiffel Tower was built or the following World Expo in 1900.
The church is located in the 14th arrondissement precisely where these workers lived, it was conceived to celebrate Labor in the noble sense of the word.
You will also notice the unusual flowery motif surrounding the murals, they are very representative of the Art Nouveau movement which was blossoming (no pun intended) at that time. Worth a visit if you enjoy modern architecture!
