1938 Munich Agreement

30 September 1938, the Munich agreement was signed by Nazi Germany ; the French Republic (at that moment the 3rd Republic) ; the United Kingdom and Italy.

The "deal" allowed Hitler to take over the Sudeteland region in Czechoslovakia where three million people spoke German on the promise that Nazi Germany would cease its territorial conquests after that.

The French and British diplomats returned to their respective countries claiming "they had achieved peace in our times". They were completely blinded by their governments' policy of appeasement. Hitler already knew what was next: Poland...
