Abigail Adams was born on 22 November 1744, she could be considered the Founding Mother of the United States! When the Continental Congress was formed in 1774 in Philadelphia, John Adams, who was originally from Boston, MA, had to leave and stay away from his wife and family for several years.
During this time of forced separation, husband and wife wrote to each other the most incredible letters. At a time when the majority of ladies were still mere housewives (not there's anything wrong with that!), Abigail educated herself by reading and developed ideas that were much ahead of her time.
She was very vocal about women's rights, which were still pretty much non existant throughout the world back then. Her outspoken personality seemed to be the perfect fit for the brillant lawyer John Adams was. In his letters to her, he called her Saucy Abigail!
