French Revolution - Abolition of Privileges of Nobility
On 4 August 1789, the newly formed National Assembly deliberated and voted the abolition of privileges of nobility! This is a major turning point in the French Revolution and the history of France.
The feudal system that had existed for centuries vanished in the span of few hours... Imagine a world where 3% of the population had rights the rest did not...
This issue is the heart of the French Revolution: equal rights! Equality which we take for granted now simply did not exist before that event!
Of course, one can imagine the 3% privileged class was not too content about losing their special rights and being now equal to peasants!
The bronze bas-relief is on the pedestal of the statue on Place de la République.
