Alexander Hamilton was born on 11 January 1755. His father was a Scottish merchant and his mother, the daughter of a French Huguenot!
Hamilton revealed his military talent early on during the American Revolutionary war and became one of Washington's aides. He was also very close to the Marquis de La Fayette, the two men being two years apart in age.
When Washington became President, Hamilton was appointed Secretary of the Treasury, and as such contributed to laying down the foundation of the U.S. financial system. In 2015, the biography of this self-made immigrant by historian Ron Chernow turned into a smash hit on Broadway!
