Bois de Boulogne Park
🎼”Green acres is the place to be!"
While visiting Paris, should you need a dose of grass to escape from the overwhelming beauty of the city, the museums and landmarks, the Bois de Boulogne is a great idea! You will be able to get lost: these green acres are 2,5 times bigger than Central Park and 3 times bigger than Hyde Park!
The Bois de Boulogne was part of Napoleon III's urban plan to transform Paris. We can thank him and the Baron Haussman for the Auteuil Greenhouses, the Acclimatization Garden and two lakes! But is that what the Emperor really wanted?
Napoleon III who had spent a few years in London had comissioned a river similar to the Serpentine in Hyde Park. The first architect in charge for transforming the woods made a terrible error regarding the ground level, so he was fired and the second architect had a solution to save the project: creating two lakes!
In the end, it is one accident that turned out well. Lastly, a gentle word of advice: make sure you enjoy the Bois de Boulogne during day time! It is one of these places where sensible persons should not wander after dark...
