Charles De Gaulle Foundation
During the heritage days week-end, I visited the De Gaulle Foundation. It is located on Rue Solferino, in the building where the "Great Charles" had established his political party: "Rally of the French People" (Rassemblement du Peuple Français) in 1947.
The centrepiece of the place is of course his office. One can see his desk, chair, globe, maps and a few items that belonged to him. The very few decorative objects such as the lady dancer on the cabinet were actually offered to him.
What is striking is the simplicity of the decor. It is definitely more reminiscent of military headquarter as opposed to the ostentation usually found in French government places or should I say palaces?... The key word here is humility.
