Comte De Grasse - Battle of the Capes

On 5th September 1781, a week before his 59th birthday, François Joseph Paul, also known as Comte de Grasse won a decisive victory against the British navy for which the United States should be grateful!

At the battle of the Virginia Capes (or battle of the Chesapeake), de Grasse prevented the British navy from bringing reinforcements to Yorktown and at the same token, prevented other British troops from escaping their strongholds.

In the meantime, George Washington and the Comte de Rochambeau with their respective armies outnumbered the « red coats ». The coordinated efforts of these three officers made the Siege of Yorktown the turning point of the American Revolution.
