Copy of Statue of Liberty
On 28 October 1886, the Statue of Liberty was inaugurated in New York City. A gift from France to the United States. Sculptor Bartholdi stated: "The dream of my life has been accomplished, the symbol of unity and friendship between two Nations, two great Republics!".
There are a few copies of Liberty Belle in Paris, that one is a gift from the U.S. to thank France. It stands on the small artificial island "Île aux Cygnes" right between the 15th and 16th arrondissements (districts) of Paris. It is oriented towards her bigger sister in New York.
If you look closely, you will see what's written on the tablet she's holding. In America, it reads the date of 4 July 1776. Here, her plaque reads the same date in French followed by 14 July 1789. Birth dates of both Republics.
