Dominique-Vivant Denon passed away on 27 April 1825. When he was born, his parents could not have christened him with a more appropriate first name! Vivant means "living" and if you visit the Louvre, you can see for yourself, the man has left his imprint!
1793, in the midst of the French Revolution, the newly formed republic decreed works of art should be accessible to everyone in the spirit of equality, and so the Louvre became the “Palais des Arts".
