Egyptian Fellah Fountain in Paris
Another one of the fifteen beautiful fountains commissioned in 1806 by Napoleon for Paris! This one is known as the "Fellah Fountain" inspired by ancient Egypt, "Fellah" meaning "peasant" in Arabic.
The statue stands within the traditional trapeze shaped Egyptian temple portal which makes for a surprising but interesting juxtaposition next to metro station Vanneau in the 7th arrondissement.
I particularly like the design of the eagle. The imperial eagle was a symbol chosen by Napoleon, however, here you will notice how it is drawn in the fashion Egyptians used to depict it with its wings spread horizontally!
