Foch Statue - WWI Marshall

Facing the Eiffel Tower on the Place du Trocadéro, there is a statue of a man on a horse... It's Maréchal Foch.

The foreign visitors who are history buff and have read about 20th century wars will know who Foch was: the Commander of the Allied Forces in WWI.

The seven stars you see on the pedestal corresponds to the distinction of a Marshall which is not a military rank, but a distinction for generals who have won significant victories in war time.

The pedestal also highlights he received the highest distinction of Field Marshall by the United Kingdom as well as its equivalent by Poland. It should be noted only six military leaders ever received that from Poland.
