The "Fountain of Peace" was commissioned in 1806 by Napoleon to commemorate the Treaty of Amiens which had been signed four years earlier between France and England.
The commission also fit in the plan of Napoleon to build 15 new fountains, operating day and night offering water to Parisians.
Originally, it was located on Place Saint-Sulpice, right in front of the church of the same name. Later, it was deemed too small in proportion to the church, so a new imposing fountain was built, and the fountain of peace was relocated steps away on the "Promenade de l'Allée du Séminaire", paralel to Rue Bonaparte and that is where it still stands now.
The "Fontaine de la Paix" has been recently restored so you can appreciate the beautiful bas-reliefs representing Peace, Science and Arts, Commerce and Agriculture.
