Fountain of the Innocents
You may have passed the "Fontaine des Innocents" without paying much attention to it. "Les Halles" area is always bustling with crowds so you either did not see it, or did not notice it due to the pollution covering it...
That is about to change. Just like many other landmarks being "rejuvenated" for the 2024 Summer Olympics, the fountain is also getting a "facelift". Finally, one will be able to appreciate its beauty.
This fountain was commissioned mid 1500's by Henry II (you can see his insigna "H" on the fountain) and Queen Catherine de Medicis, in order to replace the previous fountain dating from 1260... Mid 1500's, that's right in the midst of the Renaissance. I am looking forward to admiring the restored nymphs' bas-reliefs in June 2024... Patience for the rebirth of the Renaissance fountain!
