Fountains on Place de la Concorde
The two fountains on the Place de la Concorde were placed there on both sides of the Obelisk from 1836 to 1846 to complete the design of the square. The architect in charge was Jacques-Ignace Hittorff.
One fountain represents the ocean and the sea and the second one symbolises the Rhine and Rhone rivers. Hittorff must have jumped for joy in his tomb when he heard the fountains were finally going to be restored in 2023.
Parisians may be mixed about the idea of welcoming the Summer Olympics in 2024, but this has certainly greatly contributed in the city of Paris cleaning up major sites that had been neglected over the years.
