Fouquier-Tinville (Antoine) - Revolutionary Court Prosecutor
Antoine Fouquier-Tinville was the main prosecutor of the "Tribunal Révolutionaire" (revolutionary court during the "reign of terror")... He requested the execution by guillotine of about 2,000 people inclusive of Marie-Antoinette, and even leaders of the Revolution such as Robespierre and Danton.
When his turn to face a trial came, he pleaded he only executed orders and he acted as per the orders of Robespierre and the Comity of Public Safety who had created the law of suspects...
On 7 May 1795, Fouquier-Tinville was the last person executed by the revolutionary court, the very court he served. That doesn't mean executions ended there nor the guillotine went into retirement...
