Hamilton - Origin of U.S. Dollar
On 4 April 1792, a bill initiated by Alexander Hamilton made the Dollar the official currency of the new born United States of America.
Have you ever wondered where the name Dollar came from? Its origin is "Thaler", it was a coin from Austria (with the face of Maria Theresa) which was widely spread in central Europe monarchies and their colonies.
And the word "Thaler" itself referred to "Joachimsthaler", the valley of Joaquim, the Austrian town located near the mines where the silver was extracted. Joaquim is no longer part of the Austrian Empire, it is now part of the Czech Republic and is now named "Jàchymov". I doubt there's any silver left there...
