Hector Guimard - Building’ staircase on rue Henri Heine

It is a real treat to get inside a house or apartment building designed by master Architect Hector Guimard! While the man is mostly known for his Art Nouveau designs, after that movement had fallen out of fashion, he adapted to what came next: Art Deco!

I took these photos in a building on Rue Henri Heine in the 16th arrondissement. Check out this superb staircase! Guimard set white and green glass bricks shaped like diamonds on the walls as if he was making a necklace!

The other clever idea was to place openings on both sides of the staircase walls so that no matter where the sun hits, the light still goes through and makes the glass bricks shine like precious stones! The genius of this Architecte Extraodinaire lies in every single detail!
