Hector Guimard - Hôtel Roszé
Here are photos of "Hôtel Roszé. This private townhouse in Paris is the oldest existing creation of Hector Guimard who is known as the spearhead of Art Nouveau Architecture. It was built in 1891 by the then 24 year-young budding architect. Budding, yet already determined to make his mark!
Notice his signature on the façade! In the late 1800's, a handful of architects started signing their names on the façade of their creations. Artists signed their paintings, why wouldn't architects do so too? This was a self-affirming statement and the young Guimard was looking to create something artistically different!
