Hôtel de la Monnaie - “L’Art-Gent” Expo

Would you like free money? This month (August 2023), the "Monnaie de Paris" (the Money Museum) is free! And they have a temporary exhibition entitled "L'art-gent". The title is a play on word and it says it all: "l'art" needs no translation and "argent" is "money".

Classic paintings show how money has been depicted in myths and religious beliefs with exemples of poverty, wealth, greed, moral values.

There are also some modern pieces which examine the complex relationship between art and money; art as a commodity; and a reflection on our society of consumerism.

Overall an interesting juxtaposition of works by Fragonard; Louis le Nain; Dali; Warhol. Food for thoughts! A brainy activity for the summer! And it's free!
