Jacques-Louis David - Artist
Jacques-Louis David was born on 30 August 1748. He is considered the leader of the French neo-classical movement, inspired by the greek and roman aesthetic ideals. Several years before the French Revolution, David was already acclaimed and accepted as a great artist.
He got politically involved and served the Revolution with his rendition of the "Oath of the Tennis Court", the "Death of Marat" and the unfinished portrait of young General Bonaparte. David was in awe of him and as an Artist, appreciated his Italian features.
David naturally became Napoleon's first painter and produced several iconic masterpieces: "General Bonaparte crossing the Alps" and of course the "Coronation" painting.
