John Locke - Treatises of Government
On 28 October 1704, John Locke passed away. This British philosopher contributed to changing the old world, going after concepts that prevailed in the old regime over Europe, thus participating to the age of Enlightenment.
For one, he defended the idea that men are born free and equal.
He also claimed that sovereignty belonged to the people and a social contract was necessary for a legitimate government.
Finally, John Locke stated men had fundamental natural rights and these were "life, liberty, and property."
Many European thinkers will follow and will pick up the torch.
