Louis Vuitton Foundation
The controversial and “deconstructivist” Louis-Vuitton Foundation
Money! Money! Money! It’s gossip time today! The Louis-Vuitton Foundation is one of the latest museums added to Paris. The initial budget for the building was 100 millions Euros. Or did they mean 100 millions per year? Because when construction was finished 8 years later, the final cost was: 800 millions!
Good news and bad news. The good news was the foundation would donate the museum to the city 55 years down the line. The bad news was that thanks to a tax deduction program granted to companies promoting art, according to the press, the Louis-Vuitton group deducted some 500 millions. An association filed a suit against the foundation for tax evasion. The court determined the case should be dropped…
The Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy group belongs to Bernard Arnault, third richest man in the world (Forbes 2020)... In the end, Paris has a new museum in the beautiful Bois de Boulogne, with a very original design by Frank Gehry. Can you guess the name for the architectural style? It is called “Deconstructivism”.
