The Louvre Pyramid has experienced the same love and hate relationship as the Eiffel Tower did when it was first built. Parisians were extremely divided upon the inauguration of this "thing" in the middle of the magnificent museum. President François Mitterand was ridiculed and compared to a Pharaoh!
But 30 years after its creation, according to a survey, the Pyramid is one of the top three items tourists come to see in the Louvre, along with the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. And Parisians don’t seem to be complaining any more (but don’t you worry, we French, always find something new to moan about :).
Thanks to or because of Dan Brown and his unbridled imagination (ie Da Vinci code novel), plenty of esoteric theories surround the Pyramid. For instance, claiming it is made of 666 glass panes (that’s the number of the Devil in the Bible) while there are actually 673 of them. Others claim it is a symbol of Freemasons, and so on and so on…
