Louvre - Wing by the Seine River
The Louvre! No matter which part of Paris you approach this museum from, you are bound to be bewildered!
These are the arches you will see when you walk from the left bank of the river, from Quai Voltaire and on the Pont du Carrousel towards the Arc du Carousel.
While this wing of the Louvre dates back to the 1600's, it was redone in 1860 by Napoleon III, hence his coat of arms. The three arches were created to allow traffic to go through.
The bronze statue represents the genius of the arts. The two stone statues represent the war navy to the left and the commerce navy to the right.
