Marie-Françoise Adrienne de Noailles

On 11 April 1774, Marie-Françoise Adrienne de Noailles married Gilbert Motier, Marquis de La Fayette. They were 14 and 16 years old.

Before their union, their respective families organized a get together without telling them they were considering marrying them! Marie-Françoise Adrienne wrote a note about him in her diary: she had been struck by the dashing six foot tall Marquis!

During the French Revolution, as La Fayette was taken prisoner by the Austrian army, she travelled to Austria, begging to be imprisoned with her husband if there was no chance for him to be released! Talk about loyalty and devotion!

Sadly, her stay in prison affected her health and she will die as a result of it years later.
