Marquise de la Pompadour
On 15th April 1764, Madame de la Pompadour passed away.
The lady is a fascinating character one cannot summarize within an Instagram post. Intelligent, refined, well versed in the arts, and beautiful. Louis XV could not resist, she was his « official favorite » for 6 years.
She was showered with titles such as Marquise, then Duchesse and of course nice gifts. In Versailles, the King had the little Trianon built for her. Later she bought herself a nice pied-à-terre in Paris which happens to be now the Palais de l’Elysée, or if you prefer : the presidential palace…
Madame de la Pompadour had a great political influence on Louis XV. The Marquise is a part of my Online Journey about the Bourbon Kings of France !
