Mel Brooks is the undisputed Master of Spoof!
When I was a teenager and loving history in school, I saw Mel Brooks' "History of the World", I laughed for two hours and I absolutely loved how he depicted the French Revolution. The line "It's good to be the king" captures Absolute Monarchy in a nutshell!
In today's politically correct world, I still watch his movies and I still think they are a breath of fresh air. His classics "Young Frankenstein" and "Blazing Saddles" must be among the funniest comedies ever made.
And what about "The Producers" about an unscrupulous theater director who sets out to stage a flop so he can cash in without paying taxes... The movie features the infamous song "Springtime for Hitler and Germany"... Who else could have come up and gotten away with such lyrics?
