Palais Brongniart - Napoleon's Stock Exchange
Early 1808, Emperor Napoleon tackled the issue of the stock exchange. Prior to that, the entity never had its own location and moved around quite a bit. Napoleon decided such institution required a stable location.
The next question was where and what it would look like. Napoleon's wish was that the stock exchange should be impressive and look like a Greek temple. Napoleon loved the magnificence of Greek and Roman architecture. In that respect, he didn't derive from Louis XIII and XIV.
On 5 March 1808, the first stone of "Palais Brongniart" was laid down. Sadly its construction would be finished after Napoleon's exile and passing. Since the adoption of the Euro currency, this location is now a convention center for all kinds of events.
