Pascal (Blaise) Statue
Blaise Pascal is a French scientist, mathematician, thinker and philosopher. He died on 19 August 1662, at the age of 39. Yet, in spite of such a short life, he left behind him a huge legacy.
He is credited for laying down the theory of probabilities and even the invention of the first calculator which you can see at the "Musée des Arts et Métiers".
After a mystical experience which he described as a "night of fire", he turned his energy to religious philosophy. He devoted the second half of his life to demonstrating the existence of God. His writings were later collected under the title "Les Pensées" (thoughts).
His statue is located at the bottom of Tour Saint-Jacques on Rue de Rivoli.
