Plaques Liberation of Paris August 1944
At the very end of Rue de Rivoli, right before the street meets the Place de la Concorde, and on the wall of the Tuileries Gardens, one can see 10 plaques honouring people who died on 25th August 1944 during the liberation of Paris.
This was the last day of fighting that started on 18 August 1944 between the "FFI" aka "Forces Françaises de l'Intérieur" and the last remaining Nazi German troops occupying Paris.
This location is part of my WWII Occupation and Liberation of Paris. Among the people who bravely gave their life that day, some were soldiers, resistants, or even young volunteers for the French Red Cross... As per the Geneva convention, people wearing the arm-band of the Red Cross should not have been shot at...
