Russian Holy-Trinity Cathedral in Paris
We all may have a bone to pick with the leader of Russia at the moment, but let's set that aside to have a look their architecture. The construction of the Holy-Trinity Cathedral in Paris was initiated ten years ago, in 2013 by the Patriarch of all Russias (Head of the Russian Orthodox Church), Vladimir Poutin and with the agreement of then French President Nicolas Sarkosy.
It is a mix of very modern architecture with Russian and Byzantine elements like the so typical onions domes. Apparently, the shape of these domes was adopted in Mother Russia to allow snow to glide from the rooftops. There is not a chance of heavy snow in Paris, but it doesn't matter.
The former mayor of Paris actually tried very hard to deny the building permit as he thought the architecture didn't fit the keys of the Seine river. As with previous monuments, the passing of time helped some Parisians accept the new addition to their city' landscape. Some say the golden domes create an interesting juxtaposition next to the incurved shaped Eiffel Tower. Others still hate it! What do you think?
