Saint-Leu Saint-Gilles Church
This gothic church is one of those that do not make it on the major guide books (perhaps due to its location in a red-light district?), but its unusual character will appeal to church architecture aficionados.
The cross displayed inside is the symbol of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. In short, it’s inspired by the crusades in the Holy Land. I love the two belfry towers which are reminiscent of what you would see in the countryside of France.
The foundation dates back to the 1200’s, and as many churches in Paris, it has suffered destruction and revolutions and been rebuilt several times. So now you have a legitimate reason to visit the Halles district and you will be steps away from the ever popular Marais area.
