Saint-Louis des Invalides Cathedral - Part I
When you visit the "Hôtel des Invalides", you might get overwhelmed by how much there is to see. That's precisely why I have prepared a custom private tour dedicated to that museum!
One important part of the Invalides that is often overlooked is the Cathedral of "Saint-Louis des Invalides".
This church was commissioned by Louis XIV as part of his "Invalides" project to provide a place where wounded soldiers would be taken care of. It was not a leisurely place to be, the wounded also had to work and follow a very regimented life, inclusive of attending mass every day.
The flags hanging from the ceilings all along the neve were taken from enemies' armies. This "tradition" started with the wars sparked by the French Revolution and other conflicts France was involved up to WWII.
Check out the second post where you will see things you do not normally have access to!
